Knit for Charity: Crochet Stripey Blanket (with pattern)

It’s probably something in the air before Christmas that makes me think more about those who needs our help more then ourself. And this year I decided to crochet this stripey blanket for Knitting for pre-mature Babies which they will be using as an incubator cover.

I made this blanket with single crochet stitches, because one of the requirements was to make it with a dense stitch to block of light and the noises around. And the dimensions were 102 cm x 82 cm.

Materials:

  • 10 skeins of Knitting Essentials DK (3 blue, 3 pale aqua, 2 grey and 2 olive);
  • 4mm crochet hook;
  • scissors.

Pattern:

With the first colour in your colour sequence (I started with a blue), make a Foundation Single Crochet of 178 stitches, chain 2, turn. Video below shows how to make a single crochet foundation stitch:

Row 1: single crochet in the next stitch. Make 1 single crochet into each stitch. Chain 2, turn.

Repeat Row 1 until the skein nearly runs out. On the last row with this colour skip Chain 2, break the yearn and pull the end through the remaining stitch.
