After I finished to crochet a hat and a scarf with teddies’ heads for my son, it was time to start similar project for my daughter too. And this time I chose white and a red colors. I think this combination of colors is perfect for winter.
Firstly, I made a hat and a scarf using this pattern here. I used cashmere wool and 3.5 mm crochet hook.
After the hat and scarf were done, I started to think about the hearts decorations. At the beginning I thought to use crochet red hearts, but after few trials, I realize it’s too many crochet there. So, fabric decorations were what I needed. I made paper heart shape, took my daughter’s red tunic, that I thought to reuse for some Christmas decorations and some lace from my wedding dress.
I started decorations by cutting 8 pieces of fabric (heart shape) and 4 rectangles of lace just a little bit longer then the heart is:
Then I stitched rectangles to the fabrics and cut the leftovers of the lace:
After that I put my fabrics face together and sew, leaving few inches gap to turn it inside out. After the sewing was done, I cut into the heart top point:
And I gently trimmed into the seam (but not through the stitches) all around the edge:
Also I cut the excess fabric across the bottom point of the heart:
Then I turned it inside out I stitched it with ladder stitch:
Finally, I stitched 2 hearts on the scarf’s ends, 2 on the hat and made 2 tassels, which I added at the hearts’ bottom points of the hat (a tutorial of how to make a tassel – here). I am not sure aren’t they too big, but my daughter wanted to have big tassels.
And that’s it – lovely winter set is ready to keep my daughter warm. And I think, I can smell Christmas already 😉
P.S. My next project is going to have a mustache 😉
